The Alberta Utilities Commission is currently considering a project from Aura Power Renewables Ltd. who has applied to to construct a 75-megawatt solar power plant approximately four kilometres north of Drumheller. The AUC will be holding a hearing in Drumheller, Alberta, on March 5 to 8, 2019, to review the applications and submissions received, as indicated by the notice of hearing issued on November 15, 2018.
The proposed project would consist of approximately 271,000 solar photovoltaic
panels, inverters, transformers and battery units be sited on approximately 380 acres of privately-owned, cultivated land in portions of sections 28 and 33 of Township 29, Range 20, west of the Fourth Meridian.
Aura Power Renewables Ltd. has also applied to interconnect the power plant to the ATCO Electric Ltd. electric distribution system.
