The Alberta Utilities Commission is currently considering a project from ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. to construct a new 4.27-kilometre long 406.4-millimetre pipeline that is to be constructed from 41 Avenue S.W. and 141 Street S.W. to Ellerslie Road S.W. and 127 Street S.W. and connected to the existing South Edmonton Control station.
The need for these pipelines was established in the ATCO Pipelines Urban Pipeline Replacement Project Decision 2014-010 (Errata) issued February 21, 2014.
The AUC issued a notice of application for the South Edmonton Connector Project on August 27, 2018.
The application also proposes the construction of two 100-metre long pipelines that link the new 4.27-kilometre pipeline with existing gas utility pipeline infrastructure in south Edmonton. This new pipeline will replace a portion of the existing 406.4-millimetre Pembina Transmission Pipeline that is proposed to be abandoned in a future application.
The two 100-metre long 219.1 and 323.9-millimetre pipelines will connect the Golden Spike Transmission pipelines into the existing South Edmonton Control Station within the Transportation Utility Corridor.
- Construction of 4.27 kilometres of 406.4-millimetre outside-diameter pipeline.
- Construction of one hundred meters of 219.1-millimeter outside diameter pipeline.
- Construction of one hundred meters of 323.9-millimeter outside diameter pipeline.
- An additional control building and associated valve assemblies within the existing South Edmonton Control Station.
More details on the proposed project, including maps, are available on ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd.'s website: South Edmonton Connector.
