The Alberta Utilities Commission is currently considering a project from EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. to construct a new four to five kilometre 72-kV overhead and partial underground transmission line in Edmonton. The AUC will be holding a hearing on December 10, 2018, to review the applications and submissions received, as indicated by the notice of hearing issued on September 14, 2018.
The Alberta Utilities Commission is currently reviewing the applications and submissions received which can be accessed through the eFiling System and going to Proceeding 23641. A notice of application was issued on July 17, 2018, asking those that wish to participate in the proceeding to provide their submissions.
The application proposes a new four to five kilometre 72-kV overhead and partial underground transmission line, discontinue the use of existing 72-kV transmission line 72RS5 located along 103 Street and alter the Dome 665S Substation by expanding the fenceline near Parsons Road. The applications also propose a new transmission line 72DS26 would connect the Dome 665S to the Strathcona Substation which would either follow primarily along 99 Street or 97 Street.
EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. also proposed to construct approximately four to five kilometres a new underground 72-kV transmission line 72DS26 between the existing Dome 665S and Strathcona substations. The underground line would cross three existing 240-kV transmission lines south of 31 Avenue on Parsons Road that are owned by AltaLink Management Ltd. EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. applied to construct a new fibre optic line, designated as FO-158, on the same structures and same route as the new transmission line 72DS26.
The Alberta Utilities Commission is also reviewing the Alberta Electric System Operator's application for approval of the need to upgrade the Dome 665S Substation and to add the 72-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to serve load growth in the area.
More details on the proposed project, including maps, is available from EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc.'s website: Strathcona Area Transmission Upgrade Project
