Utility Sector

The Alberta Utilities Commission sets Rates & Tariffs and the terms and conditions of service for the Utility Sector in Alberta which include investor owned electric, gas and water utilities, and some municipally owned electric utilities. The Rates & Tariffs and Reports found in this section are put in place to ensure that just and reasonable rates are set, that service standards are maintained and to ensure that the utility sector provides safe and adequate service to their customers.

Service Quality and Reliability Plans (SQRPs) provide ratepayers with assurance that utilities are meeting utility performance targets through providing timely reporting to the AUC for evaluation of the level of service through benchmark standards. SQRPs are submitted quarterly and then once annually by wire owners and retail service providers.

Financial and Operational Reports are submitted annually by the regulated utilities and service providers in accordance with Rule 005

Regulated utilities are subject to the Gas Code of Conduct Regulation and/or the Inter-Affiliate Code of Conduct both of which require the quarterly and annual filing of a Compliance Report

The AUC performs financial and operational audits of utilities to verify the accuracy, completeness and regulatory compliance of utilities for selected activities.
