The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) was formed on January 1, 2008 when the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) split into two regulatory bodies; the AUC and the Energy Resources and Conservation Board (ERCB).
The following are some achievements of the AUC and the its predecessor, the EUB.
- At the 2008 CAMPUT Awards Banquet in April 2008, the AUC's Chief Executive, Bob Heggie, was awarded the Leadership Award for Demand Side Management in Energy Efficiency Dialogue in recognition of his work on demand side management in 2007 and 2008.
- In September 2006, Bob Heggie, then Executive Manager of the EUB's Utilities Branch, won the Leadership in Education and Development Award, presented by the Canadian Association of Members of Public Utility Tribunals (CAMPUT), a nonprofit organization of federal, provincial, and territorial regulatory boards and commissions. Bob shared the award with an Ontario Energy Board representative for their work in developing the CAMPUT/Queen's University Utility Regulatory Course.
- In 2006 the EUB was nominated for the International Pipeline Regulatory Award which is conferred upon a regulatory body that has contributed significantly to the development of the pipeline industry. It is awarded by a panel of peers and experts from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Being named a finalist for the ASME award, the EUB was received recognition for resolving issues and helping others to realize the importance of safe pipeline operations as part of national and international infrastructures. The nomination recognizes leadership, innovation and a regulatory approach that advances cooperation among stakeholders and improves safety and environmental stewardship.
