The need for the Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement was approved by the AUC in Decision 2009-126 and the need for the Hanna Region Transmission System Development was approved in Decision 2010-188. The AESO has filed an application to amend the need approved in Decision 2009-126 and Decision 2010-188. AltaLink has also filed an application with the AUC to construct facilities that will meet the need applied for in the AESO's application.
A decision on AESO NID applications was issued on March 15, 2011 (Decision 2011-102)
A public hearing was held from March 16 to 18, 2011 at the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre in Brooks, Alberta. The hearing record closed on April 1, 2011 following receipt of outstanding undertaking at the hearing.

| Description |
The AESO has applied for approval to amend three needs identification document approvals, which addressed the need to develop and reinforce the electric transmission system in the southern region of Alberta (SATR NID) and in the Hanna region (Hanna NID).
AltaLink has applied for approval to construct facilities to meet the needs identified in the SATR NID and Hanna NID approvals. AltaLink’s applications propose to construct and operate three new substations, two new 240-kV transmission lines, and to alter an existing transmission line in order to connect it to one of the new substations. |
