Population growth in Alberta has increased the demand for gas and electric services across the province both in the densely populated urban areas of Alberta's major cities and rural areas where utility service may not have been provided previously. Consequently, more facilities are required to be built in order to accommodate the growing demand.
The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approves the construction of facilities such as:
Electric substations
Electric transmission lines
Power generation facilities
Pipelines or pipeline installations that transport sales quality natural gas licenced by a gas utility or its affiliate.
A complete list of facility projects currently under review by the AUC can be found under the Current applications page of the AUC website.
