Under statutory obligation, all regulated electric utilities, gas utilities, regulated service providers, and default service providers are required to file a detailed report of finances and operations annually with the Commission.

In consultation with utilities and utility industry stakeholders, the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (the AUC’s predecessor), developed uniform, timely and consistent reporting requirements that are set out in AUC Rule 005: Annual Reporting Requirements of Operational and Financial Results.  Rule 005 requires each utility to file a complete set of schedules and supporting variance explanations as soon as possible after the end of each year, but no later than May 1 for electric utilities and May 15 for gas utilities. The filed requirements are publicly available through the AUC’s electronic filing system, Applications Search, as well as any information requests that the AUC makes of the utilities.
