The Alberta Utilities Commission has approved an application from East
Strathmore Solar Project Inc. to
construct and operate the East Strathmore Solar Project, a 20.1-megawatt
solar power plant approximately 12 kilometres east of Strathmore. The
proposed project will be sited on approximately 120 acres of private,
cultivated land in Wheatland County on a single quarter section of land located
in the southwest quarter of Section 9, Township 24, Range 23, west of the
Strathmore Solar Project Inc. is also approved to interconnect the power plant to the FortisAlberta Inc.
electric distribution system through a 700-metre underground distribution line.
The AUC originally scheduled a hearing for the East
Strathmore Solar Project on March 31, 2020 in the William Andrew Grieve Hearing Room in Calgary. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hearing was rescheduled and held virtually through an online webinar on July 8, 2020.
