The AUC is reviewing ​applications for transmission development in the Medicine Hat area

​Overview

The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) is reviewing applications from Enerfin Energy Company of Canada Inc. to construct and operate the Winnifred Wind Power Plant Connection Project. 

The AUC issued a notice of applications​ for the project on September 1, 2021.

Enerfin Energy Company of Canada Inc. has applied to:

  • construct and operate ​a new approximately 25-kilometre, 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, to be designated as Transmission Line 498L.
  • connect Enerfin's proposed Winnifred Wind Power Project to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System, via Enerfin's proposed Holsom 1054S Substation. 

AltaLink Management Ltd. has applied to:

  • connect the existing Bullshead 523S Substation to proposed Transmission Line 498L. 
  • upgrade the Bullshead 523S Substation to accommodate this proposed connection.​

The AUC held a virtual information session on November 18, 2021, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to provide information about how interested parties may become involved in this proceeding and the funding which may be available to you to support your position, which includes costs for legal representation and expert witnesses.

Summarized process schedule 

On October 22, 2021, the Alberta Utilities Commission issued a notice of hearing for the applications for the Winnifred Wind Power Connection Project. The Commission's notice outlined initial process steps and indicated that it would hold a virtual oral hearing to consider the proceeding.

The Commission has determined it will host a virtual oral hearing, commencing on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, and has updated the process schedule as follows:​
