The AUC is introducing distribution system planning reporting guidelines under its legislative mandate to support the ongoing optimization of Alberta’s electricity distribution networks. These guidelines are designed to ensure distribution facility owners plan effectively for evolving customer needs and the energy transition, maintain a focus on affordable services and acceptable reliability, and share their approaches in a consistent, transparent manner to drive industry-wide improvement.
The requirements apply to FortisAlberta Ltd. and the distribution businesses of ENMAX Power Corporation, EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc., and ATCO Electric Ltd., and were developed through engagement with utilities and stakeholders across the sector.
More information can be found in Bulletin 2026-02.
The AUC has amended Rule 024: Rules Respecting Micro-Generation and associated documents, which sets out the requirements that must be met before constructing and interconnecting a micro-generation unit to the distribution grid.
The amended documents, and further details, can be found in Bulletin 2026-01.
