Overview

The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) is reviewing applications from Saturn Power Inc. to construct and operate the Springbrook Solar Power Plant Project.

The AUC issued a notice of hearing for the project on March 28, 2022.

Green Cat Renewables Inc., on behalf of Saturn Power Inc., has applied for approval to construct and operate the Springbrook Solar Project and to connect it to the FortisAlberta Inc. electric distribution system. The project would consist of a solar photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of up to 20 megawatts.

The project would be sited on approximately 92 acres of cultivated land within Red Deer County, approximately 1.8 kilometres northwest of the hamlet of Springbrook. The proposed project would be sited adjacent to the Red Deer Regional Airport on land owned by the airport and a private landowner. More specifically, the project would be located on the northwest, northeast and southeast quarters of Section 23, Township 37, Range 28, west of the Fourth Meridian. ​

Virtual hearing​

The AUC will be holding a virtual hearing to review the application and submissions received to consider the solar power plant development application in Proceeding 26893. The hearing will take place virtually on May 25 to May 27, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you intend to present evidence at the virtual hearing, you must submit your written evidence by April 25, 2022, and be present at the commencement of the hearing. Your written evidence should include your statement about your intended level of participation, including whether you or your representative will:

  • Attend the hearing.
  • Cross-examine any of the applicant’s witness panels.
