The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) has approved applications from Saturn Power Inc. to construct and operate the Springbrook Solar Power Plant Project. The AUC issued a notice of hearing for the project on March 28, 2022.
Green Cat Renewables Inc., on behalf of Saturn Power Inc., has been approved to construct and operate the Springbrook Solar Project and to connect it to the FortisAlberta Inc. electric distribution system. The project will consist of a solar photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of up to 20 megawatts.
The project will be sited on approximately 92 acres of cultivated land within Red Deer County, approximately 1.8 kilometres northwest of the hamlet of Springbrook. The proposed project will be sited adjacent to the Red Deer Regional Airport on land owned by the airport and a private landowner. More specifically, the project will be located on the northwest, northeast and southeast quarters of Section 23, Township 37, Range 28, west of the Fourth Meridian.
The AUC held a virtual hearing to review the application and submissions received to consider the solar power plant development application in Proceeding 26893 from May 25 to May 27, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
