Overview

The AUC will be considering the electric transmission development applications in Proceeding 29355.

The Alberta Electric System Operator has applied for approval, under the Electric Utilities Act, for the need to connect NGTL GP Ltd.’s approved Berland River compressor station to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System.

AltaLink Management Ltd. has filed applications under the Hydro and Electric Energy Act to meet the need identified by the Alberta Electric System Operator. AltaLink has applied to construct and operate a new 138-kilovolt (kV) substation, designated as Berland River 1182S; a new 138-kV switching station, designated as Pine Creek 328S; and approximately 59 kilometres of 138-kV transmission line, designated as Transmission Line 620L, which would connect the Berland River 1182S Substation to the Pine Creek 328S Switching Station. The proposed facilities are located approximately 25 kilometres south of Fox Creek in the Municipal District of Greenview No. 16, Yellowhead County and Woodlands County. AltaLink has proposed a preferred and an alternate route for the transmission line. The Commission may approve or deny either of the proposed routes.

In addition, AltaLink has applied to:

  • Construct approximately 100 metres of 138-kV transmission lines, designated as 614L and 685L, to create a new in-and-out configuration to connect the existing Transmission Line 685L to the proposed Pine Creek 328S Switching Station.
  • Modify a short segment of the existing Transmission Line 685L from an overhead shield wire to an overhead fibre optic cable.
  • Install a new 138-kV circuit breaker and associated equipment at the existing Benbow 397S Substation.
  • Re-route a short section of existing Transmission Line 714L to a new termination circuit breaker at the existing Benbow 397S Substation.

The project area is shown in the map below.
