Beacon AI Centers – Heartland Project Thermal Power Plant Application

The AUC will be considering the power plant development application in Proceeding 30518. You can view the notice of application here. If you feel you may be affected by this application, you can request to participate and provide input to the AUC before it makes its decision. You can request to participate by registering and filing a statement of intent to participate by February 23, 2026.

Heartland Power Generation LP has applied to construct and operate the Beacon AI Centers – Heartland Project Thermal Power Plant. The project is proposed to be located within the Alberta Industrial Heartland, approximately seven kilometres east of Gibbons, in Sturgeon County, Alberta. Specifically, the project would be located in Section 15, Township 56, Range 22, west of the Fourth Meridian.

The total capability of the project would be 920 megawatts, and under normal operating scenarios, would supply approximately 800 megawatts of power to co-located, on-site data halls, intended to contain artificial-intelligence and high-performing-computing facilities.

The application has been filed under the Hydro and Electric Energy Act.
