Rule 021 defines the business processes and mechanics of how electrical energy settlement is to be carried out at the retail electricity (site/meter) level in Alberta.

Rule 021 sets out the requirements, responsibilities and standards to be followed for load settlement agents, distributors and meter data managers in order to facilitate the exchange of information amongst them.
The AUC is responsible for the development of rules regarding the role of market participants involved in electric load settlement and the development of comprehensive standards for electronic business transactions. Electric load settlement rules allow for the accurate, efficient and timely communication of load settlement information among market participants.
Rule 021: Settlement System Code Rules has been adopted by the AUC to set the comprehensive standards for the market participants.
