The AUC has approved the power plant, transmission line and substation development applications submitted by Kiwetinohk Energy Corp and AltaLink Management Ltd.
Kiwetinohk Energy Corp. (KEC) applied for approval to construct and operate the 460-megawatt combined-cycle Flipi power plant and the associated Wapos 1077S Substation. The power plant would consist of one natural gas-fired combustion turbine, one steam turbine and one generator in a single-shaft configuration. The power plant and Wapos 1077S Substation would be located on approximately 33 acres of private land within the southwest quarter of Section 33, Township 41, Range 4, west of the Fifth Meridian, approximately 18 kilometres southwest of the town of Rimbey.
KEC and AltaLink Management Ltd. have applied to connect the power plant to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. The connection would involve the construction of one approximately 130-metre, 138-kilovolt transmission line, designated as 987L, from the Wapos 1077S Substation to a new 240-kilovolt switching substation near the power plant site, designated as the Leedale 1076S Substation. The substation would include three 240-kilovolt breakers. The existing Transmission Line 926L would need to be modified to an in-and-out configuration to connect the new substation. The applications have been filed under the Hydro and Electric Energy Act.
